Up Costa Vicentina 🚗

Deuxième partie de notre road trip au Portugal ! Après avoir profité quelques jours du sud du pays, en Algarve, nous avons remonté la côte ouest jusqu'à Lisbonne. 

Here comes the second part of our road trip in Portugal! After making the most of the Algarve Coast, we took the long way up back to Lisbon, along the Vicentina Coast; come and follow us!

La côté ouest est vraiment différente de l'Algarve en termes de paysage, forcément nous sommes du côté océan ! La nature, les plages, les falaises y sont plus sauvages. Et si cette partie du voyage est moins adaptée au farniente, les paysages restent magnifiques et nous avons découverts de jolies plages et villages en chemin ! 
I have to say, the Vicentina Coast is a totally different scene than Algarve Coast. You're obviously on the ocean side of the country so the coast, the beaches and the sea are wilder, less tamed. But the scenery is also breathtaking and we discovered quite few cool places!

Nous avons fait le trajet jusqu'à Lisbonne en 4 jours et 7 arrêts sur le chemin. Nous avons passé la nuit à Arrifana (du côté d'Aljezur) puis Vila Nova de Milfontes et enfin à Troia avant d'arriver à Lisbonne le dernier jour. 
We made it back to Lisbon in four days and stop in 7 or 8 different places on the way. We spent a night in Arrifana (10 mins from Aljezur), Vila Nova de Milfontes and a final stop in Troia before heading back to town.  

Nous avons visité Faro et un peu déçus par la ville, nous avons décidé de prendre la route pour Lisbonne. Premier arrêt : Vila Do Bispo, où nous avons déjeuné dans un bon restaurant de poisson / fruits de mer que je vous recommande, Ribeira do Poço. Pour ma part, j'ai prit un excellent steak de thon, le service est très sympa et les prix abordables ! Sinon, la ville n'a rien d'extraordinaire. 
Nous avons fait un arrêt pour admirer la vue sur l'océan au Miradouro da Cordoama. L'océan est à flanc de falaises et il n'y a que l'océan à perte de vue, c'est à couper le souffle ! 

We ended our trip down south with walking around Faro and I have to say we were a bit disappointed. It was kind of cute but it felt really touristy and didn’t have the charm of Lagos and it felt a but dull compared to it. So we decided it was time for us to head north!

First stop: Vila Do Bispo. We stopped there for lunch at Ribeira do Poço. I had a really good tuna steak, service was impeccable and with really good prices; would definitely recommend it! Otherwise, town was nothing too special. 

We then made a pit stop at the Miradouro da Cordoama. You have an incredible view over the ocean, the miradouro is right at the foot of the breathtaking cliffs. Most impressive view! 

Puis nous avons roulé jusqu'à Aljezur, où nous avons cherché un hôtel pour la nuit. Nous avons fini par nous arrêter sur le plateau d'Aljezur, à mi-chemin d'Arrifana. Nous avons dîné dans un excellent restaurant péruvien, à ne pas manquer : La Preferida. Le restaurant venait de réouvrir pour la saison mais les plats étaient délicieux et très copieux, les prix raisonnables. C'est un peu isolé mais ça vaut le détour ! 

Le lendemain, nous avons fait un arrêt à Praia da Arrifana pour regarder les vagues et les apprentis surfeurs. 

Then we drove all the way to Aljezur, where we looked up a room for the night. We ended up booking a B&B on the Aljezur plateau, half away from Arrifana. We had an amazing dinner at a Peruvian restaurant: La Preferida. I would definitely recommend going there, the food was amazing and it looks like they had a really cozy terrasse for those long summer nights :) Also had a good price for value. The location was a bit random, but definitely worth a detour. 

The following day we stopped at Praia da Arrifana and spent a few hours to watch the waves crash on the cliffs and wannabe surfers. 

Nous avons repris la route, pour aller jusqu'à une de mes plages préférées : Praia Da Armoreira. La plage est vraiment isolée et il y a un bras de rivière qui vient se jeter dans l'océan. L'eau de la rivière y est turquoise (et moins froide que l'océan !) et une partie de la plage est à l'abri. Nous y sommes restés un grand moment et j'ai regretté qu'il ne fasse pas plus chaud pour s'y baigner ! 

Puis nous avons fait un rapide arrêt à Odeceixe avant d'aller jusqu'à Vila Nova de Milfontes. Gros coup de coeur pour cette ville ! Nous avons passé la nuit à Guarda Rios, que je vous recommande les yeux fermés. L'hôtesse est adorable, le petit déjeuner délicieux et la localisation est idéal (à 2 mins de marche de 2 excellents restaurants et 5mins d'un bar très sympa !). 
Nous avons pris un verre (hmm Sangria) à Tasco do Largo, qui propose aussi à dîner, avant d'aller déguster de délicieux plats chez Ritual. Les plats ne sont pas très typiques du Portugal mais néanmoins délicieux, je recommande vraiment. Globalement, la ville est très mignonne avec de petites rues pavées, on y a bien dormi et bien mangé. Le plus : il y a très peu de touristes étrangers ! 

Then we headed to one of my favourite beach from the Vicentina Coast: Praia Da Armoreira  It was mostly deserted, we took a long and winding road all the way to the ocean from Aljezur. It’s special because there is a river flowing right into the ocean. The water looked amazingly turquoise and there’s part of the beach that’s secluded and protected from the ocean. We stayed there for a while and I wish the weather were warmer so we could swim! 

After that, we made a quick stop in Odeceixe before heading to Vila Nova de Milfontes. Really, really loved Vila Nova de Milfontes! We spent the night at Guarda Rios  and I would also really recommend it. The hostess was lovely, breakfast amazing and the location is perfect. It’s just a 2-min walk from two really good restaurants and 5 mins from a cool bar! 

We walked around and had a drink (hello sangria!) at a cool bar/restaurant, Tesco do Largo and then headed to dinner at Ritual  We queued a bit but it was really worth it! Dishes weren’t really local but all of them had a twist. Overall, it’s a really cute town, with paved streets and nice streets. Coolest thing about it, there are almost no tourists and it’s mostly Portuguese tourists!

Nous avons continué jusqu’à notre remontée jusqu’à Lisbonne avec un joli arrêt le long de la plage Malhao  que nous avons remonté à pied, fait quelques photos et profité de la beauté du paysage. Comme je vous le disais, la côte Vicentine a un côté beaucoup plus sauvage mais fascinant. Les couleurs, les odeurs, l’océan... Vraiment dépaysant même s’il y a toujours beaucoup de vent. 

Notre prochain arrêt a été la jolie Porto Covo  Nous avons profité de notre étape pour prendre un petit goûter: glaces artisanales et Maqueses ! Ce sont des petites patisseries, qui ressemble un peu à des Pasteis de Nata mais à l’orange et à l’amande. Je recommande ;) 

Nous nous sommes baladés dans la petite ville, vraiment très pittoresque et la rue principale mène à l’océan. 

Nous avons fait quelques arrêts additionnels, plusieurs plage mais rien que ne vaille vraiment le détour. Notre dernière étape a été à Troia, où nous avons passé la nuit, avant de prendre le ferry pour Comporta. Nous avons fait un ultime arrêt pour admirer Lisbonne depuis Cristo Rei et un dimanche de Pâques en plus ;)). Un dernier arrêt au Park rooftop que nous avions visité lors de notre voyage à Lisbonne il y a 2 ans, et sa sangria avant de reprendre l’avion pour rentrer à la maison ! 

We continued our way north and walked along the beautiful Malhao beach and just contemplated the beauty of the beach, the ocean and the waves. 

We made another stop in a pretty town: Porto Covo. We made the most of it by taking the Main Street all the way down the ocean and having an ice cream and a Marqueses. They’re similar to pasteis de nata is shape and size but they have an orange and almond filling, yummy! 

We made another few stops on the way to Troia where we stayed for the night but ther weren’t that special. We then took the ferry to Comporta and chose the scenic road to Almada through the Parque Naturale da Arrabida. We enjoyed Lisbon from the other side, from the Cristo Rei before heading back for one last sangria at Park rooftop before flying back home!

J’ai beaucoup aimé ce second voyage au Portugal. Les paysages sont magnifiques, on y mange bien, les gens sont très sympas et les prix sont très raisonnables. Bien qu’il est fait un peu frais, ça a été de vraies vacances, très dépaysantes ! A refaire !

Really enjoyed this holiday in Portugal, it’s the perfect balance of nice town and villages, good food, nice people and amazing scenery. We really made the most of this holiday and felt really exotic, would love to go and discover Portugal once more!
